PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a beam vibration damper which increase the durability of a picture reader and an optical scanner in which the vibration of a reflection mirror is damped by using a piezoelectric element and can achieve a long service life while keeping the performance of the apparatus by improving the durability of the piezoelectric element. SOLUTION: Two piezoelectric elements of the same figure are mounted on the positions which are symmetrical with respect to a vibration mode on a reflection mirror, and the functions as a sensor and as an actuator are switched over at a predetermined timing.
