PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing apparatus using a fixing roller driving gear which can easily prevent the extremely serious failure such as the breakage of a halogen heater by maintaining the shape of a core bar (journal) even when the U-cut part of the core bar (journal) cracks, and to provide an image forming apparatus equipped with the fixing apparatus. SOLUTION: Regarding the fixing apparatus equipped with a fixing roller 1 for fixing an unfixed toner image transferred on a paper, and having a driving gear 5, the driving gear 5 is engaged/fitted with/to a key groove or the U-cut part 4 formed at one end part of the fixing roller 1, and in this case, the gear 5 is engaged/fixed while simultaneously holding the outer diameter part and internal diameter part of the journal 3 of the fixing roller 1.
