A resilient collar 7, e.g. of nylon or acetal resin, is moulded (to form the bearing face of the nut) on a spigot portion 4 of a nut, the portion 4 being undercut (to form a groove 3) or cylindrical and with a circumferential rib or circumferentially-spaced projections. In the form shown, the nut 1 may rotate relative to the collar 7 during tightening but the collar finally spreads and contacts the thread of the bolt 11 to lock the nut. The diameter of the collar 7 is slightly greater than the maximum diameter of the nut 1. An annular groove 12 may be formed in the bearing face. The collar may be coloured to indicate the material of the nut and the latter may be plated.
