PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an yttrium based red phosphor having enhanced luminance characteristics under low voltage and high current density conditions, a process for preparing the yttrium based red phosphor, and a display device using the yttrium based red phosphor. SOLUTION: A Y<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>:Eu based red phosphor containing an electroconductive material, a display device using it, and a process for preparing it are provided. The process for preparing a Y<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>:Eu based red phosphor comprises a step of co-precipitating Eu as an activator in a solvent containing Y<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>as a host to obtain a blend solution, a step of adding an electroconductive material to the blend solution and stirring the mixture, a step of baking the resultant blend solution containing the electro conductive material, to obtain a baked mixture and a step of pulverizing and filtering the baked mixture, to yield the Y<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>:Eu based red phosphor containing the electroconductive material.
