<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the amount of consumption of toner in response to the state of printed image information in an image forming apparatus having an economy mode function. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1 is an apparatus having the economy mode function that performs printing capable of suppressing the amount of consumption of toner and comprises an image reading part 3, a control part 5, and an image forming part 7. The image reading part 3 reads the image information of a document. The control part 5 predicts printing density when the read image information is printed on paper.
