PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shoe assembly for microfinish working, having an insert grinding wheel with flexibility to easily cope with a work different in width, thereby preventing an increase in cost and the lowering of productivity. SOLUTION: A shaft-like work W is held by a pair of shoe assemblies 1, 1 having a plurality of insert grinding wheels 3a to 3c on the inner peripheral surface of a support shoe 2, a lapping film 4 is interposed between the insert grinding wheels 3a to 3c and the work W, and while the lapping film 4 is backed up by the insert grinding wheels 3a to 3c, it is rotated relatively to the work to perform microfinish working. Attitudes of the insert grinding wheels 3a to 3c can be varied by oscillatory rotating operation and the attitudes are varied to cope with working for a work W different in width.
