PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a cost of a scanning optical apparatus by simplifying the structure of an optical box and eliminating a turning back mirror, and also to provide the scanning optical apparatus downsizing an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: The typical configuration of the image forming apparatus is characterized in that a laser beam 3Y, which a deflection scanning unit 55 deflects and scans, and a laser beam 3M, which a deflection scanning unit 155 deflects and scans, intersect on the path of laser beams from the deflection scanning units 55 and 155 to photoreceptor drums 1Y and 1M, respectively, and the scanning line by the laser beam 3M which the deflection scanning unit 155 deflects and scans enters between the scanning lines on the photoreceptor drums 1Y and 1C by the laser beams 3Y and 3C which the deflection scanning unit 55 deflects and scans.
