PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal-halide lamp used for a headlight for an automobile and/or for an infrared night vision device having high total luminous flux of visible light and preventing reduction in a near infrared ray radiation maintenance factor. SOLUTION: This metal-halide lamp is constructed of a translucent airtight vessel 1 having a light emission tube part 11, which forms a discharge space 12 of 0.1 cc or less, and sealing parts 131 and 132 formed in both ends of the light emission tube part 11, and the discharge space 12 contains sodium iodide and cesium iodide at least. When a ratio Y/X between an enclosed amount X of sodium iodide and an enclosed amount Y of cesium iodide, the ratio Y/X for a discharge medium enclosed in the metal-halide lamp ranges from 0.05 to 0.12, and mercury is not contained intrinsically. In the discharge space 12, a pair of electrodes 31 and 32 are arranged face to face at an inter-electrode distance of 5 mm or less, and the other ends of the electrodes 31 and 32 are sealed at the sealing parts 131 and 132.
