PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device having a dual function of illumination and forming a figurative image. SOLUTION: This invention relates to an apparatus having a LCD screen 4 and an optical device for forming a decorative pattern in the form of a figurative image. The optical device includes an optical guide 1 at least partially superposed onto the LCD screen and having two large faces 10, 11 and one ring-like face 12. Optical extractors 20 each having a reflective surface to reflect light are arranged in a first group in the large face 11. A light source 8 is arranged so as to emit light in the direction of the reflective surfaces via the ring-like face 12 of the optical guide. Thus, a light beam reflected on the reflective surface is oriented to a predetermined direction. A set of light beams forming a figurative image in that direction is chosen to be the normal in relation to the mid-plane of the optical guide. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
