PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel polyimide containing 3,3',4, 4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride as the essential tetracarboxylic dianhydride component, and having a large relative moisture permeation rate. SOLUTION: The polyimide is obtained by reacting tetracarboxylic dianhydrides comprising the 3,3',4, 4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride with diamines comprising 0.5-40 mol% diamine represented by general formula (1) (wherein, A is a direct bond or a crosslinking group, and R<SB>1</SB>to R<SB>4</SB>are each a substituent selected from a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon group, a hydroxy group, a carboxy group, an alkoxy group and a carboalkoxy group).
