1,070,712. Fluid-pressure operated disc brakes. BENDIX CORPORATION; Jan. 5, 1966 [Jan. 8, 1965], No. 489/66. Headings F2E and F2F. In a disc brake comprising fixed caliper housing having, on each side of the disc 8, a cylinder 16 formed in it to receive a piston 26 for applying a pad 11 to the respective disc face, the piston is provided with a recess 28 facing the closed end of the cylinder, and a post 20, through which extends a bore 24 communicating with a fluid inlet 22, is formed integrally with the housing and extends into the recess, whereby machining of the casting forming the caliper housing is simplified. The recess 28 in the piston also accommodates an automatic adjuster and a kick-back absorbing arrangement comprising a friction ring 36 which is pushed along the post by a shoulder 42 formed on an insert 38 fitted in the recess, after a clearance " C " has been taken up. A spring 34 returns the piston after a brake application to maintain the clearance " C," and a second, stronger spring 32 acting between the bottom of the recess 28 and a plate 30 allows kick-back to occur without affecting the adjustment, the engagement of plate 30 with a shoulder 46 of the insert 38 fixing the release position of the piston. |
