<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which a writing means by a laser and a writing means by an LED array can be made coincident with each other in writing start positions. <P>SOLUTION: The writing start timing (resist detection signal (LD)) in the horizontal scanning direction by the first writing means (LD unit) is adjusted on the basis of the detection signal of a resist pattern image of the second writing means (LED array head) detected by a detecting means (detector).
