PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte for driving an aluminum electrolytic capacitor capable of improving a withstand voltage without increasing a specific resistance. SOLUTION: The electrolyte for driving the aluminum electrolytic capacitor comprises a composition of an ethylene glycol as a major solvent, a higher diacid or its salt, boric acid or its ammonium salt, and a glyoxal trimeric dihydrate shown by the formula.
