PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader in which the high rigidity of a resin frame is achieved without increasing the number of components or man-hours needed for assembly. SOLUTION: The image reader includes: a platen for placing a document thereon; a reading unit for reading the document on the platen while moving in a sub-scanning direction; a resin boxlike frame storing the reading unit; a metal reinforcing member fixed on the upper face of the bottom plate of the frame, used to reinforce the frame and also guide the reading unit in the sub-scanning direction; a control substrate supported on the underside of the bottom plate of the frame; and a metal shield member for shielding electrical noises emitted from the control substrate. The shielding member is fixed in the position where it is vertically superposed on the reinforcing member on the underside of the bottom plate of the frame, and thus reinforces the frame.
