An SOFC system is efficiently started in a short time while obtaining a reformed gas having an increased hydrogen concentration. The method, which starts an SOFC system comprising a reformer having a reforming catalyst and an SOFC employing a reformed gas as a fuel, comprises: a step in which a catalyst (A) having a POX function and a catalyst (B) having an SR function are used as the reforming catalyst and the catalyst (A) is heated with combustion heat or electricity to a temperature at which POX reaction can proceed; a step which comprises heating the catalyst (B) with the heat of POX reaction, feeding the resultant reformed gas to the anode to heat the SOFC, and heating the catalyst (B) with the combustion heat obtained by burning the reformed gas and discharged from the anode or a step which comprises heating the catalyst (B) with the heat of POX reaction, feeding the combustion gas obtained by burning a reformed gas to the cathode to heat the SOFC, and heating the catalyst (B) with this combustion gas; and a step in which at the time when the catalyst (B) has been heated to a temperature at which SR reaction can proceed, the proportion of the POX reaction is reduced or the POX reaction is stopped to conduct SR reaction. |
