PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup tilt correction control apparatus, and tilt correcting method in which correction speed when tilt of an objective lens used for an optical pickup of an optical pickup apparatus is corrected is increased and the optimum correction is possible. SOLUTION: In a optical disk recording and reproducing apparatus, an average offset component is superimposed on correction quantity applied to a coil for tilt correction, step disturbance of arbitrary polarity is added to a center value of the superimposed offset component, an envelope of reproduced output or the maximum value and the minimum value are detected, the detected envelope or difference between the maximum value and the minimum value is averaged, when the step disturbance is changed to the prescribed value, tilt of the objective lens can be adjusted in a short time by controlling offset quantity of the offset component so that the envelope or difference between the maximum value and the minimum value becomes smaller.
