A blank cartridge for simulating the noise of a live round comprises a powder charge 4 enclosed within a bag 3 and a tamping plug 2 spaced apart within and secured to the walls of a synthetic plastics cylinder 1 of low inflammability which melts and disintegrates on firing the powder charge. The tamping plug is made from an unmoulded, paste-like mixture of a filler, a synthetic resin and a hardening binding agent and disintegrates on leaving the barrel of the gun in which the cartridge is fired. A spacer 6 in the shape of a cross separates the powder charge and plug. The spa@er and cylinder may be made of foamed polystyrol. |
