[Also in Divisions D1 and E2] A releasable fastening, for example for attaching parachute webbing 35, to a load, such as a space capsule (28, Fig. 2, not shown) comprises a ring-shaped frame (20) having cavities (22) each shaped to receive an end fitting 36 which tapers inwardly from its outer end 37 and has a concave face 3611. The end fittings 36 are inserted in the cavities from within the ring and are held in place by another ring (24) to which the load is attached by plates (30, 31), or by a ring or hook connected by ties to the ring (24, Figs. 10 and 11, not shown). In another embodiment (Fig. 12, not shown), a ring (100) having a ring (104) from which a load is suspended, has bolted to it brackets (90-97) each having a cavity for receiving an end fitting. The end fittings are inserted before the brackets are bolted to the ring and are thereby prevented from slipping out. The end fittings may be plane on one side (as shown) or concave on both sides (Fig. 6, not shown) and each cavity may contain two end fittings (Figs. 4, 5 and 7, not shown). The end fittings are formed by removing the weft of the webbing in the region the fitting is to cover, and splaying out the warp strands in a mould which is then filled with material such as solidifiable semi-liquid or granular plastics. |
