<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter inhibiting tilt of a splined portions of a drive shaft and an overrunning clutch. <P>SOLUTION: The starter comprises the drive shaft 5 formed with a shaft spline 5a on an outer peripheral side, the overrunning clutch 6 formed with a barrel spline 61a for meshing with the shaft spline 5a on an inner peripheral side, axially movable with respect to the drive shaft 5 and forming a one-way clutch, and a pinion gear 8 integrally disposed on the overrunning clutch 6 for meshing-engagement with and disengagement from a ring gear 10 of an internal combustion engine. A radial clearance X (= X1 + X2) between tooth tips of the shaft spline 5a and tooth bottoms of the barrel spline 61a is set smaller than a backlash Y (= Y1 + Y2) between the shaft spline 5a and the barrel spline 61a. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
