<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent depression of display caused by a liquid crystal display element, and to prevent restriction of a surface treatment such as a decorative layer applied to the surface of the liquid crystal display element, caused by a polarizing plate. <P>SOLUTION: In this electronic watch having the liquid crystal display element 9 for electro-optically displaying information such as a time by enclosing a liquid crystal 16 between a pair of upper and lower glass substrates 11, 12, and a pointer display part for indicating the time by a pointer, at least an upper polarizing plate 14 between the upper polarizing plate 14 and a lower polarizing plate 15 provided on the pair of upper and lower glass substrates 11, 12, respectively is provided on the under surface of the upper-side glass substrate 11, and the upper-side glass substrate 11 is used as a dial of the pointer display part. Consequently, information displayed on the liquid crystal display element 9 is prevented from being viewed in the deeply depressed state, and especially when applying a surface treatment onto the upper surface of the upper-side glass substrate 11, the surface treatment is not restricted by the upper polarizing plate 14, and thereby the surface treatment such as the decorative layer 20 can be applied easily and excellently onto the upper surface of the upper-side glass substrate 11. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
