<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having a charging member of a contact charge system, the image forming apparatus being designed such that excessive discharging is restricted, uniform charging of the charging member is ensured, and a long life of the charging member is realized at a low cost. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an image carrier 11 having a surface layer formed from a material selected from a group consisting of a fluorocarbon resin, a silicone system resin, and a polyolefine system resin; the contact charging member 131 for charging the surface of the image carrier 11 to a constant potential and a power source 132; a cleaning blade (contact member) 17 disposed downstream in the direction of the movement of the image carrier 11 and used to remove residual toner, discharge product and so on in contact with the image carrier 11; an ammeter 135 used to measure a current flowing due to charges on the image carrier 11 charged by the contact charging member 131; and a power source control section 134 used to control the power source 132 based on a current measured by the ammeter 135, thereby adjusting a current supplied to the contact charging member 131. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
