PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double-sided image reader capable of reading a double-sided image by combining switching of the mechanism transmission with this control, mainly performing reciprocal rotation control, and using a single driving source. SOLUTION: In a general U-turn document carrying system, a means for operating a document feeding means at a rate of one time to N times, is composed of a control ring for restricting a rocking arm and a position of the rocking arm in two ways. As a result, a document carrying roller rotating in both reciprocal directions, a driving source of a reversing means for always rotating only in one direction and a driving source of a separating means, can be performed by the same motor, and the double-sided image reader and an inexpensive option (post-installation) double-sided device capable of reducing cost and the size of the device, can be provided.
