<p>An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for minimizing NO<SUB>x</SUB> in exhaust gasses. The apparatus includes an ionization module 410 configured to at least partially ionize an exhaust gas of an engine 100. A characterization module 302 is configured to identify NO<SUB>x</SUB> ions present in the ionized exhaust gas, and an engine control module 310 is configured to communicate with the characterization module 302 and modify engine parameters in response to identified NO<SUB>x</SUB> levels. The system includes an internal combustion engine 100 having an intake manifold configured to deliver air-fuel mixture to at least one combustion chamber, an exhaust manifold 106 configured to receive exhaust gasses from the combustion chamber, and the described apparatus. The method includes controlling an ionization module 410 configured to at least partially ionize an exhaust gas of an engine 100, identifying NO<SUB>x</SUB> ions present in the ionized exhaust gas, and modifying one or more selected engine parameters in response to identified NO<SUB>x</SUB> levels.</p> |
