To form longitudinal grooves in a cylindrical body, e.g. as clutch plate carriers or toothed belt disks, a roller shaping action is used with concentric profile rollers to shape a profile on the workpiece. The profiling action on the blank (1) is by embossing and/or compression, with the material build-up at the corner (2) of the blank.
