<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal recording material which can inhibit print hindrance due to head smear or heavy friction. <P>SOLUTION: This thermal recording material comprises a thermal recording layer formed on a support and contains a chemical compound represented by formula (1) in at least one layer on the support. In formula (1), X<SP>1</SP>and X<SP>2</SP>are each independently a single bond, an NR3 group (R3 is hydrogen or an alkyl group), oxygen, sulfur, a carbonyl group, a sulfonyl group or a divalent linkage group consisting of a combination of these elements.
