PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To activate a catalyst early by raising the exhaust temperature from immediately after starting while suppressing the level of vibration and deterioration of NOx to the minimum. SOLUTION: In a first period during cranking, when an air pump cannot be operated, in a second period (Tbth) until the battery voltage is stable after cranking when the air pump cannot be operated, and in a third period (Tpth) until a discharge amount is stable after the air pump starts to operate, fuel cut or ignition cut is performed in a part of cylinders, and instead of secondary air, air or raw gas from a combustion chamber of the cylinders is discharged to an exhaust air passage.
