The unit (100) is assembled of a base (16) with a shallow vertical border (17), a carrying panel (13) resting on corner elements (18), two transparent or translucent sheets (10, 11) provided with identical or different patterns and a transparent cover plate (12) in a surrounding frame (20). The two sheets (10, 11) are moved by an eccentric drive in order to create a changing pattern which can be additionally illuminated from below. The complete unit (100) can be used as a tabletop, a cabinet door or positioned at different places within the house for the creation of a unique effect.
