Curable thixotropic mixtures comprise (1) an epoxy resin, (2) a curing agent for (1) which contains at least one tertiary amino group, and (3) thixotropic agents which are insoluble in the mixture of (1) and (2) and are selected from pulvurilent high M.W. polyalkylenes, polyalkylenes completely substituted by F or by F and Cl, super polyamides, cured aminoplasts, cured phenoplasts and cured polyurethanes. Examples of (2) are N,N-dialkyl-1,3-propylenediamine, e.g. N,N-dimethyl-1,3-propylenediamine or a tertiary Mannich's base such as 2,4,6 - tris - (dimethylaminomethyl) - phenol. Examples of (3) are polyethylene powder, polypropylene powder, polytetrafluoroethylene pow der and powdered nylon. (3) may have a bulk density not exceeding 1 kg./litre, a mean particle size <400Á and may be used at from 5 to 150 parts by wt. per 100 parts of (1). The curing agent may be used at 0À005 to 1 part by wt. of (1). The mixture may be in the form of a twocomponent pack, the entire contents of which on mixing give a curable mixture according to the invention. One component comprises an epoxy resin and the second component the curing agent and one or both of these components also contain a thixotropic agent as previously defined.</p> |
