The system has a graphical user interface displayable on a display unit. The interface has virtual buttons (101-108) actuatable by a user using an input unit. The buttons permit the user to control extraction of a region of interest by growth of the region at a processing unit based on a marker point belonging to the region. A window (100) is provided in which the extraction is visualized as there is growth of the region. An independent claim is also included for a method permitting the processing of a medical image.
