PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation device and an information retrieval method that facilitate setup operation for a speech recognition dictionary during driving of a vehicle. SOLUTION: The navigation device 1 is equipped with a control section 20, a map data section 5, a display section 7, and a microphone 9. The control section has a speech recognition part 26 which recognizes speech, picked up by the microphone and a speech recognition dictionary setting part 24 which sets a keyword relating to a map region being displayed at a display part to the speech recognition dictionary part 25. The display section has a touch panel 41 on its display screen; and when a user touches the touch panel, the speech recognition dictionary setting part sets the speech recognition dictionary via an input control part 21 and an operation history part 23 so that a keyword related to a designated region on a map, based on the touch, is preferentially recognized as a speech. The speech recognition means performs speech recognition from a voice spoken by the user, by using the speech recognition dictionary and the display section displays place information retrieved from a map data part, based on the speech-recognized keyword.
