<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for inhibiting the generation of bright lines on a part of an emission surface that is near an incident surface in replacement of a conventional simple structure that a light scattering area is formed near the emission surface and the incident surface. <P>SOLUTION: A light guide plate 2 has one face serving as the emission surface 2a, another face which is counter to the emission surface 2a and serves as a reflective surface 2c, and a side face which is almost perpendicular to the emission surface 2a and serves as the incident surface 2b. The emission surface 2a has a light adjuster 12 formed near the incident surface 2b. The light adjuster 12 includes a strip-like low scattering area 10 which extends from the end side E of the emission surface 2a at the incident surface 2b side in the same direction as the incident surface 2b with a given width D1, and a high scattering area 11 which is adjacent to the low scattering area 10 at the opposite side to the incident surface 2b side.
