PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital recording and reproducing apparatus in which operation for division-recording digital data in a plurality of recording media can be performed simply and in a short time. SOLUTION: The apparatus has a recording request receiving part receiving division-recording request of already accumulated data accumulated in an accumulating part for a plurality of recording media, a division position specifying receiving part reproducing video of a division part in the already accumulated data corresponding to recording capacity of the recording media from the accumulating part responding to recording request, while receiving a division position specifying command specifying a desired division position in the already accumulated data, a calculating part calculating recording residual quantity of the already accumulated data based on the division position specifying command, and a control part performing such control that reception of the division position specifying command and calculation of recording residual quantity are repeated until the recording residual quantity becomes recording capacity of the recording media or less.
