PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable speed control device for a continuously variable transmission for preventing unnecessary torque shift compensation without causing deviation from a speed ratio to be reached. SOLUTION: The variable speed control device for the continuously variable transmission 15 has a sub transmission 20 connected to the output side of an engine E and having a plurality of speed stages one of which is selected by the linkage of an one-way clutch. It comprises a variable speed control means 11 for performing variable speed control of the continuously variable transmission 15 or the sub transmission 20 depending on the operated condition of a vehicle on which the continuously variable transmission 15 is mounted, a compensation means 12 for performing torque shift compensation of the continuously variable transmission 15 depending on the operated condition of the vehicle, a determining means 14 for determining the release of the one-way clutch in spite that the sub transmission 20 is selecting one speed stage, and a compensation prohibiting means 13 for prohibiting the torque shift compensation when releasing the one-way clutch during selecting one speed stage.
