<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To disclose a portable electronic device that includes a screen and a numeric keypad. <P>SOLUTION: The portable electronic device, having the screen and numeric keypad, comprises a sound card for processing sound signals to produce musical tones; a musical synthesizer, associated with the sound card, for electronically synthesizing musical instruments; and a user interface for interfacing the musical synthesizer to a user via the screen and numeric keypad.
