PURPOSE:To produce a molten iron from iron ore with high thermal efficiency by forcibly stirring the molten slag in a furnace with swiveling vanes in the stage of blowing preliminarily reduced iron ore, coal, lime and oxygen into the furnace of a top blown converter system having bottom tuyeres and producing the molten iron. CONSTITUTION:The preliminarily reduced iron ore powder having <=0.5mm grain size, coal powder, lime powder and oxygen are blown from the plural bottom tuyeres 3, 4 into the molten iron 6 in the furnace 2 of the top blown converter system and gaseous oxygen is blown thereto from a lance 9. The iron ore is reduced by the coal to generate gaseous CO and to form molten slag 7. The generated CO is burned to CO2 in a secondary combustion zone 8 by the oxygen from the lance 9 to generate heat. The high-temp. CO2 is forcibly stirred by the swiveling vanes 10 coated with refractories to make the molten slag 7 to convect in an arrow direction during ascending in the molten slag 7, thereby transferring the sensible heat of CO2 to the molten iron 6 and heating the same. Since the exhaust gas emitted from the throat is low in temp., the erosion of the refractory bricks near the throat is obviated.
