PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a multipoint hybrid range finder for performing accurate range finding independent of the position or state of a range-finding object without needlessly lengthening range-finding time. SOLUTION: As to this multipoint hybrid-type range finder capable of performing active or passive range finding in a plurality of directions, firstly, range finding is performed on respective range-finding points by one of two range-finding methods, the active and passive range finding. If the number of range-finding points on which reliable range-finding results are obtained is one or less, range finding is performed by the other range-finding method on range-finding points on which no reliable range-finding results are obtained. If reliable range-finding results are obtained from a plurality of range-finding points, no range finding is performed by the other method but a final range-finding value is selected from among the obtained range-finding results.
