Method and apparatus for installing an optical fiber unit capable of removing static electricity existing between the optical fiber unit and an installation tube, by using gas flow. In the method and apparatus, ions are included in a gas for installing the optical fiber unit so as to neutralizing and remove the static electricity generated during installation. The ions included in the installation gas may be obtained by disposing an ion generator at a front or rear end of a pressing means which compresses the installation gas.
