The external door handle comprises a carrier (10) which is secured to the door (11) and which supports the handle (20). The handle (20) acts upon a lock when in the unlocked position. It is inactive when in the locked position. Locking and/or unlocking sensors (27; 37) are provided in order to actuate (24) the lock. The sensor electronics system thereof is integrated into the main housing (31) of a housing unit (30) with a housing finger (32) associated therewith, whereby a finger end thereof (33) is fitted to the locking sensor (27). The unlocking sensor is embodied as a movement sensor (37) which responds to the movement (24) of the handle (20) and is also embodied in a two-pieced form for reliable actuation (24). The stationary part (34) of said movement sensor (37) is located inside the housing finger (32), while the moveable part (35) is integrated into the handle (20).
