PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing apparatus, surely detecting the kind of an actually printed recorded medium. SOLUTION: This printing apparatus includes: an image read means for reading the surface image of a printed recorded medium; a sampling means for sampling the surface image of the recorded medium read by the image read means in a fixed cycle; an image storage means for storing the surface image sampled by the sampling means for at least one image; and a movement confirming means for confirming the movement of the recorded medium from the sampled surface image and the surface image stored by the image storage means.
