<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem of a garbage treating machine that when garbage having high oil content is treated continuously, the oil content is stuck to the surface of a heating means in a cover part, smoke is emitted from the stuck oil content and the emitted smoke is discharged to the outside of the garbage treating machine through a discharge line and a catalyst by a fan. <P>SOLUTION: When the operation of this garbage treating machine is started, at first a catalyst heating means 12 is operated, then a drying heater (the heating means) 3 and a drying fan 6 are operated almost at the same time or the drying fan 6 is operated earlier than the drying heater 3 is done and finally a suction fan 9 is operated. Therefore, since the drying fan 6 is operated before the drying heater 3 is heated satisfactorily and smoke is emitted from the oil content stuck to the surface of the drying heater 3, the oil content and the emitted smoke can be diluted and diffused by the drying fan 6. In other words, the smoke from the oil content stuck to the drying heater 3 is not discharged to the outside of this garbage treating machine before diluted and diffused even when the garbage having high oil content is treated continuously.
