PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric magnetic card reader/writer device capable of easily ejecting any inserted card, even if cards other than a magnetic card of a predetermined size are inserted. SOLUTION: The electric magnetic card reader/writer device stores the length of a predetermined magnetic card 23 along its feed direction F in an EEPROM 14 in advance. When a card is inserted, a control part 13 measures the length of the card along the feed direction F and compares the length with a length stored in the EEPROM 14, and if the difference is not greater than a predetermined tolerance, the control part 13 determines that the inserted card is the predetermined magnetic card 23. When the card is determined to be the predetermined magnetic card 23, subsequent operation is continued. If the difference exceeds the tolerance, the inserted card is determined not to be the predetermined magnetic card 23 and is forcibly discharged out of the device. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
