PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manhole cover opening device which can lift a manhole cover and then displace the same sideways by spending only a little manpower, to thereby improve the workability thereof. SOLUTION: According to the structure of the manhole cover opening device, an inclined lever 9 has its front end fixed to an upper portion of a caster support plate 17 on which casters 16 are mounted, and a T-shaped lifting projection 18 is formed at the front end of the lever 9 so as to project forward from the caster support plate 17, followed by rotatably attaching a hooked lifting projection 21 to an upper portion of the front end of the lever 9. Further a prying portion 3 is formed at a rear end of the lever 9. Then the T-shaped lifting projection 18 or the hooked lifting projection 21 is inserted into a lifting hole 7A or 7B formed in the manhole cover 6A or 6B, and the lever 9 is pressed down, to thereby lift the manhole cover 6A or 6B with the caster 16 as a rotation fulcrum, based on the leverage.
