PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrophoretic display element suppressing the occurrence of deterioration in a display image due to degradation in display contrast. SOLUTION: The electrophoretic display element comprises: electrostatic charge particles 50 within a space S surrounded by a first substrate 10 and second substrate 20 arranged in a state of opening a prescribed gap, and partition members 30 arranged in the gap between the first substrate 10 and the second substrate 20; and a dispersion medium 40 for dispersing the electrostatic charge particles 50 and forming a liquid film layer on the inner wall surface of the space S. A display medium 55 for displaying an image is arranged. The display medium 55 moves the electrostatic charge particles 50 along liquid film layer, thereby making display of the image and holding the state of displaying the image.
