PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder capable of performing printing stably without deteriorating such characteristics as continuous print stability, print quality, variation in ejection speed, drive frequency, and the like, even if the size of drop volume is varied significantly. SOLUTION: An ink jet head recorder comprising an ink jet head where a plurality of chambers communicating with nozzle openings and filled with ink are provided in a piezoelectric ceramics plate and electrodes are provided on the opposite sidewalls of each chamber, and ejecting ink by applying a drive voltage pulse for expanding the volume in the chamber temporarily and a drive voltage pulse for compressing the volume in the chamber temporarily to the sidewall through the electrodes is further provided with a drive voltage pulse control means for applying the drive voltage pulse for compressing the volume in the chamber temporarily to at least one ejection chamber before applying the drive voltage pulse for expanding the volume in the chamber temporarily.
