PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating pretreatment method for a metallic surface for a chassis of a vehicle capable of forming a chemical conversion coating which reduces sludge generation without using a phosphorus element as an essential component, is good in wastewater treatality, and has satisfactory adhesion and corrosion resistance. SOLUTION: The coating pretreatment method for the metallic surface for the chassis of the vehicle in which the chemical conversion coating can be formed by treating the metallic surface for the chassis of the vehicle by the chemical conversion treating solution, in which the chemical conversion treating solution contains 50 to 500 ppm zirconium in metallic element terms, and at least one silane compound selected from the group consisting ofγ-aminopropyltriethoxysilane, hydrolysate of theγ-aminopropyltriethoxysilane,γ-aminopropyl triemethoxysilane and hydrolysate ofγ-aminopropyltriemethoxysilane and is 2 to 6 in pH.
