PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the matters of a sheet discharge roller in an ink jet printer where a plurality of rubber or synthetic resin rollers are fitted over a metallic shaft member of small diameter that since frictional characteristics are varied due to temperature variation, contamination or deterioration, stabilized recording sheet transfer characteristics cannot be attained, enhancement of print quality is limited, a structure exhibiting recording sheet transfer characteristics similar to those of a sheet feed roller cannot be attained, and reduction in manufacturing cost of the sheet discharge roller is difficult. SOLUTION: The sheet discharge roller 5 for feeding a recording sheet in conjunction with a plurality of spur rollers on the downstream side of the recording head in a printer in the transfer direction of recording sheet comprises a solid rod-like roller body 7, a plurality of annular grooves 8 corresponding to a plurality of spur rollers 6 or a plurality of groups of spur roller in the peripheral surface part of the roller body 7, annular bodies 9 of synthetic rubber fitted to fill the annular grooves 8, and a synthetic resin friction coat layer 11 formed on the surface of a portion 10 of the roller body 7 used for transferring the recording sheet and containing multiple hard particles 12.
