<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retardation plate which can perform proper optical compensation at the temperature in a use condition, and to provide a liquid crystal panel and a projection-type display device which can improve contrast in the utilization condition. <P>SOLUTION: The intersection angle of optical axes of a first retardation plate and a second retardation plate is formed so as to be different in a plane, at room temperature. When the intersection angle A3 of the optical axes at the central part is set at 90°, the intersection angles B3 and D3 of the optical axes on one diagonal line are set at <90°, and the intersection angles C3 and E3 of the optical axes on the other diagonal line are set at >90°. The intersection angle of the optical axes at the central part at the room temperature is varied from the intersection angles of the optical axes at the four corners on the diagonal lines. When the projection-type projector is operated, namely when the temperature of the retardation plate rises, the intersection angles of the optical axes is substantially is made to coincide in the plane. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
