PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic radial tire for heavy load capable of prolonging the tire lifetime by improving the durability of tire belts. SOLUTION: The pneumatic radial tire for heavy load is composed of small inclination belt layers 2a and 2b which consist of high tension steel cords and in which the angle of the cords to the tire circumferential direction is 4-10°, main crossing belt layers 2c and 2d which consist of high tension steel cords and in which the angle of the cords to the tire circumferential direction is 18-35°, and protection layers 2e and 2f which consist of high elongation steel cords and in which the angle of the cords to the tire circumferential direction is 22-33°, and is arranged so that the directions of the cords in adjoining layers are made opposite with respect to the tire circumferential direction, wherein the relation between the width of the minimum width layer among layers constituting the protection layers represented by W6, the width of the minimum width layer among layers constituting the main crossing belt layers represented by W4, and the width of the maximum width layer represented by W3, is expressed by that W6 is larger than W4, 105%≤W6/W4≤112%, and W6 is equal to or less than W3.
