PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely search for the focusing position of a focus lens, even in a dark place in photographing by using a remote control means. SOLUTION: A light source 19, which emits light during the transmission of a release signal, is arranged for a remote controller 16 that is attached to a digital camera 2. When the computated result of the integrated value of the luminance value by an AE/AWB detecting circuit 52 is smaller than a preset threshold, an AF detecting circuit 53 computes the focus evaluation value with respect to image data that represent the light from the light source 19. A CPU33 sets a point P1, where the waveform of the focus evaluation value for the position of the focus lens becomes a valley, as a focusing position, controls the operation of a lens motor via a motor driver 34 and stops the focusing lens at that position.
