PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method or the like of a gas discharge tube blocking a tube inlet of a glass tube by forming a glass layer with its outer periphery shape coinciding with that of the glass tube, on the end face of the glass tube. SOLUTION: A dried film 20 as an elastic body including low-melting-point glass powder and binder resin is arranged at a support body 30 (Fig.(a)). First, the open end face of the glass tube 10 (a tube inlet) is pressure-contacted (Fig.(b)) with the dried film 20, which are divided into a dried film 20a and a dried film 20b each having an outer periphery face. Then, by drawing up the glass tube (10), the dried film 20a blocking the tube inlet is transferred and formed (Fig.(c)) at the end-face side of the glass tube 10. A phosphor support member 40 is inserted into the inside of the glass tube 10 (Fig.(d)), from a side opposite to an end face where the dried film 20a is transferred and formed, and the end of the phosphor support member 40 is adhered (temporarily fixed) to the dried film 20a. The binder resin is burnt off by baking the dried film 20a in a high-temperature furnace of around 450°C to be vitrified and made into a low-melting-point glass layer 21 (Fig.(e)).
